Yep, I did it. My brand new shiney refused to boot today, exactly 34 days after I started my very heavy use. I’m blaming Microsoft for this one – I didn’t want to use Microsoft Media Player; I like Nero. And when I actually put in one CD and let Microsoft Media Player play it for me the laptop starts to do a melt down on me. Stuttering, stopping, making my Johnny Cash sound more like Nickelback. And when I reboot? Won’t boot up at all.
I’m pretty regular about my backups, so all I lost was a few pages of writing I’d done this morning. (You don’t want to know the wailing and hand wringing that resulted from this.) New EmberRule – you don’t backup once a day, you backup every time you write. Because those pages this morning? They were dialogue. Nothing but dialogue. Five pages!!
But they’re gone now. :shake:
So are 5 hours of my life, which is how long it has taken me to do the restore (thank you Dell for actually getting me to a service tech without making me climb the phone tree or wait on hold) and reinstall all my software. Now it’s 10 at night, and I don’t want to try to recreate those pages so much as I want to crawl in bed with a good comfort read and let the day be over.
But I’m going to compromise and pour the wine, then see if I can get those pages back. At least a few of them.
Hope your Humpday didn’t have quite such a hump in it.
