I’m looking for my energy this week. So far I’ve looked in a coffee cup, in a double coffee cup, in a bottle of Wake Up On Time*, a Diet Mountain Dew, and in my Big Green Chair yesterday afternoon.
I tried looking in my bed last night, but every time I fell asleep something happened to wake me up. At 11, Future Evil Scientist (my son’s current life goal) woke me up peeking in to see if I was asleep yet. It’s not that he was loud, just that I sleep light. At midnight, Princess woke up because her covers fell off and she needed me to cover her back up (four years of listening for this is what makes me such a light sleeper). At 1am, she rolled out of bed – this happens when she sleeps without the Bear Family Barrier between her and the edge – and came to ask me to tuck her back in. At 2 she started screaming because her toes itched. A heavy dose of Benedryl cream and a ten minute foot rub later, I was back in my bed and wide awake. And itching. Because there’s nothing that can make you itch like listening to a 4 year old scream for 10 minutes that It Itches Mom, Make It Stop!!!!.
Damn Hubby started snoring twenty minutes later. At 3:30 I got up and gave the Damn Dog a dose of flea medicine, because it finally hit me that I think I missed his May dose. Which is probably why Princess was itching.
I finally dozed off at 4.
Now I’m waiting for my morning coffee to kick in, because today is round three of award days for Future Evil Scientist. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find my energy dozing off with me while I’m waiting through ballet class this afternoon.

*This stuff does NOT work. I got an incredulous “You bought it?” from sis after I told her I’d tried it, but in my defense – it was on the news! The reporters did a “study” and interviewed several people who said they’d never had so much energy in their life. (Fox news, I admit, which is almost as bad as an infomercial, but still – I thought there would be some basis in fact for this crap!) Since the main ingredients are vitamins and Ginseng, Guarana Seed Extract in a “proprietary, patent pending blend” I figured the worst it would do is lighten my pocket book. If you haven’t heard of Wake Up On Time, their website claims “Wake Up On Time is a brand new, all-natural product specially formulated to be taken BEFORE you go to sleep at night. When morning comes, this premium energy blend in a delayed release tablet helps you to leap out of bed instead of hiding underneath your pillow!”
Not exactly. The only leaping I’ve done is for the snooze button, to try to get another 9 minutes of sleep in.
