I was laying in bed last night, seconds from sleep, when the opening words to my WIP finally crystalized in my head. I’ve been trying to force the first scene for the past three weeks; writing around it; writing and deleting; writing, erasing, and throwing up my hands in disgust to go have a beer.
But I was so close to sleep. It was right there, waving me into its warm embrace. Just a breath away from peaceful oblivion, and those words picked now to come to me? Well they could wait up in my head until the morning, and I’d capture them then – right?
Oh no. Hell no. I turned on the light, grabbed the pen by my bed, and got the full page down in about two minutes. Because if you know anything about thoughts-before-sleeping, its that they are usually gone come sunrise.
Then I turned off the light and was asleep in about three heartbeats.
Happy Father’s Day to Dads everywhere. I’ll be calling mine later, then it’s dinner with my father-in-law. Hubby had tournaments in Orlando this weekend; he won’t be home until almost bedtime, but Princess will be glad of the excuse to delay sleep as long as she possibly can.

wow, you wrote it down. Good for you. I always think I”m going to remember because it was so darn clear. Besides if I wrote it down I’d be volumes before I ever slept. Once the mind gets going that’s it for me.
