When I escaped the office yesterday, I caught a bit of the Today show – last minute gifts. And I loved, loved, loved this one, enough that several people who had already gotten one gift are getting another one.
Give the gift of reading to kids who can’t afford books. First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.
This is a fabulous gift. First, it fits anyone. Perfect size, perfect color. Second, after you make your purchase you can print out the card right away. So – it’s Christmas night, and you realize you have completely flaked on getting a gift for your sister-in-law’s parents, who just decided a week ago they would be joining the family for dinner? Go online, buy some books (you don’t’ pick the books, just give them some money and they do all the work), print out the card, and you’ve got an instant gift. Takes less than 2 minutes.
And finally, as my husband likes to say, “Think of the kids.”
Go. Buy books and be merry.
Happy holidays!
