There are only two days (and a few hours) left in May. Which means … what? Well, June is only two days (and a few hours) away.
One more week of school, then the kids will be out for the summer. Much of May has been the usual end-of-year round of awards, parties, recitals, “I need a dress shirt by 7pm and I’ve grown three sizes since Easter”.
There’s only one day (and a few hours) left until my son’s birthday. Which means… what? That he is one year closer to being legal to drive, to vote, to enlist, to get married, to drink. We’re buying him a pc for a combination bday / middle school graduation gift. That should keep all thoughts of driving, girls, and drinking out of his head for a few more years. Ok, maybe not girls. But at last I’m pretty sure thoughts of enlisting are quickly followed by “wth would I do that for”. And politics, well, we encourage that kind of thinking.
Kittens are a wonderful thing. The dog is madly in love with him. They don’t sleep together – Tiger, as the kitten has now been named, is a bit too playful and quick with the claws to allow our middle aged dog willing to close his eyes around him. But when they’re awake, they’re usually together. And nothing is cuter than seeing the palm sized ball of fluff walk up to the knee height dog and give him a head butt, as if to say “hey ya big lazy goof, come on and play with me”. The head butt is usually followed by Tiger getting licked across the floor on his back, purring the whole way.
Family is also a wonderful thing. My brother brought my two youngest nephews for a visit over Memorial Day. We did the usual mix of tourist (St. Augustine this year), beach time, pool time, and game time. And pc time – he’s now laptop enabled, so we did that thing that drives my non-techie husband nuts and spent time just sitting in the same room and doing our own thing. Family – the people who love you even when you are sitting six feet apart and put two plasma screens between them and you.
My sister-in-law will be making me an aunt again, probably tomorrow. Her doctor decided to go on and induce at 7am. We’re all excited to finally meet baby Ava at last.
Baby sis has been on vacation for over a week, and out of the country for a large part of it. I’m missing her more than a little – can’t wait until she’s back home and just a keyboard away.
