There’s a stain on my library ceiling. This stain is from a leak, that led to a new roof, a project that was finished six months ago. But I haven’t painted the ceiling yet.
Today I’ve been fixated on that stain. Every time I sit down at my laptop, all I can see is that stain, taunting me out of the corner of my eye. Why did it wait until after my sister had come and gone to start bothering me so bad? She would have painted it for me for nothing more than a bottle of wine and my effusive gratitude.

We went to New York last week to see a final game at Shea Stadium. It was a wonderful trip, just the hubby and I (thanks largely to his parents, who kept the kids and got them to school each day) off on vacation for the first time in … I can’t remember when we went by ourselves last. The Mets won, which set a great tone for the trip, and then we spent the next 36 hours exploring Manhattan.

Circle Line has a fantastic boat tour of the city that circles the whole city, and we saw more in those 3 hours than we could have possibly seen any other way. We were actually out on the water from 10am until 1pm on 9/11, and motoring past the former site of the World Trade Center on the seventh anniversary of their fall was a powerful experience. There was a large but solemn commemorative ceremony taking place as we passed, but all we could see from the water was the parachute’s with flags.
The downside of a trip – especially a trip where the kids stayed home – is catching back up. I’m only up to Thursday on catching up with emails. I’m overdue with some work type things (nothing urgent, but I don’t like being late with anything, so it’s starting to bother me. I’ll be spending most of tomorrow catching up.
Halloween is creeping up on me, I was reminded this week when several magazines showed up with cute kids in adorable costumes. Unfortunately fall weather hasn’t begun it’s appearance. We’re still in hot and muggy Florida summer here. I’ll be glad (as always) when the evening temps drop down into the low 70’s. I just wish it would come a bit quicker.
