Early voting began today in several states, Florida included.
I love being early.
I was the 945th person to vote at the early voting poll nearest my house. There was a short line (maybe 10 minutes), and the only technical problem I saw was with the staplers – the workers had a hard time matching which staples went with which staplers, and both of them ran out at the same time. Oops.
I’m amazed by the fact that 944 people voted in the two hours before I did at this little library on the outskirts of our rather large town. I hope the response is as large at every polling place, all the way through the close of voting on Nov 4th.
And when I came home from voting, “Recount” was showing on HBO. The story of the 2000 election makes for pretty good viewing during this election season – especially when you see how many of the same issues (especially voter purging and uneven state election laws) are still an issue in federal elections.
So on that note – if you are legally registered to do so, vote. Vote early, vote absentee, or vote on election day. Pick one, but please – vote.
