What are you doing this week?

Kristen asked this morning, “What’s your week look like?”

I’m so glad I’m not the only one looking at my calendar and wondering how it’s all going to get done.

I started doing the Holiday Clean this past weekend. It’s not just because I’ve got family coming in town next week (although that’s really good incentive). It was also because the house is just too freaking messy. In about 39 days, there will be yet more “stuff” coming into the house. It’s reached the point where some of the current stuff just has to go.

My husband and son share about 500 sq feet of office space. It used to be my office too, but a few years ago I couldn’t take their clutter anymore, and luckily our house is big enough I had options – so into the library I went. Now DH and a teenager share the space, along with several pieces of exercise equipment. And our daughter has gotten old enough that she has her own pc back there too. I try to only go back there to do laundry, which is in a closet right when you walk in the room. If I spent more time back there I’d either be paralyzed with fear or run screaming for the nearest maid-staffed Hilton. But also back at that end of the house is the guest room, and when people are coming – even family-who forgives-all – there needs to be more than just a clear path to the bedroom door.

This weekend, I cleaned. My husband and son were out of town for 28 hours, and I spent 19 of them cleaning. I freecycle’d a few things that were just adding to the “clutter”, and the garbage men are going to be cursing me tomorrow when they take the rest of it away.

And as my reward, I got mutters from my son about me touching his things while he was gone. (My husband didn’t even seem to notice the difference.)

Really the rest of the house should be a piece of cake after that!

Oh, and then there’s the writing. My Golden Heart entry fee has been paid, and now I’ve got 2 weeks to get it in an envelope and out the door.
