2006 marks my entry into the world of writing contests. I’ve entered 3 – so far. And I found out yesterday that I made it to the second round of judging in one of them!The Best First Meeting contest at Romance Diva’s entered the second stage. And the six finalists are :

Steamy Section:
THE REBOUND GUY – JAC / Bernadette
TONIGHT, FOREVER – Karen / Diva Karen (this is me!!)
THE LORD HELPS THOSE… – Keziah Hill

Mainstream Section
JUST ONE NIGHT – Diva Jenna
UN-BREAK MY HEART – AJ
A KIND DECEIVER – Eliza

The other two stories in the steamy section are seriously good – better, I think, than my own entry. Both have stronger dialogue, and not as much of a scene set by the narration. But damn it felt good to final!

Just two weeks left until Amber Quill announces their winners. This one I’ve got my fingers crossed on.

The Heat Wave

There were almost 200 entries this year in Amber Quill’s Heat Wave contest. I’m expecting only a handful of really top quality writing to make it to the final selection.

My writing was good. But was it among the best? I just can’t judge it. I haven’t seen any other entries, and have no basis of comparison.

No matter how much you tell yourself “you did the best you could”, you’ll always know that really, you could have done a little bit better. But if you don’t let go, throw the words out there and let them breath, then you’ll never know what you’ve got locked up in the closet.

Forty four days, and I’ll know for sure.
