What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?

Ann.  I wouldn’t change any of my names (despite a period in 5th grade when I was convinced I needed to be called Carrie).  My parents picked them for me, and they stayed away from anything truly outrageous, so  I think I can proudly carry the name they chose and know that they put a lot of thought into it.

Soup
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?

After close to 15 years working at home, it’s comfort all the way.  Soft fabrics that are comfortable enough to lounge in but nice enough to wear out when I need to put on my public face – soft jersey, cotton, knits and denim.  I’m a fan of the basics – black, white, red, dressed up with the right shoes or belt or sparkley.  Style – casual.  Very.  Jeans and a black t, or a white pullover.  Black Capri’s.  Something with enough give at the waist and in the knees to sit yoga style or bend over and not feel your showing the world parts of your body you really didn’t intend to share today.  I probably wouldn’t have a very popular line ;)

Salad
What is your least favorite chore, and why?

Bathrooms.  No one else in the house seems to care if they are disgusting, and they’ll get truly hideous if I don’t take care of them.

Main Course
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?

I hate the idea of being afraid.  Of admitting that something scares me.  So I don’t let anything scare me, just to prove how tough I am.  Boy, an analyst would probably have a lot of fun with that one – I have no idea  where it comes from.  I just can’t remember when I was last really afraid of something .  I worry sometimes – about the kids, the husband, the usual daily grind.  But even worry seems usually to be a waste of energy and emotion that could be better spend thinking of the possible positive outcomes in a bad situation, and how to get there.

Dessert
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.

At my desk.  I see my coffee cup, my external hard drive, and the laundry I sorted out sitting in front of the dryer waiting for the latest load to dry so I can move it along.

What is your favorite kind of pie? Mmmm, pie. Favorite would probably be apple, but peanut butter and chocolate is a close second. And key Lime. And cherry. Pumpkin. Ok I’ll stop here.

Soup
Name something that made you smile this week. Watching my son and his friends horsing around in the pool last night.

Salad
What do you do to cool off when the weather is hot and humid? Get in the pool. Or stay inside where it’s not so hot and humid.

Main Course
You receive $1,000 in the mail with a letter that says you can only use the money to redecorate one room in your home. Which room do you pick, and what do you buy to spruce it up? The Kitchen. New door and windows, and reposition the cabinets from hanging in the middle of the room to against the far wall.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: My body says go back to sleep, but I have to get up.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how polite are you?
About an 8.  I get a 9 for initial politeness, but I lose a point for how short my fuse is.
“Excuse me please.  Excuse me.  Get the #*@% out of my way!”

Soup
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
Tickling my daughter when she climbed into bed this morning.

Salad
Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Wonder Woman!  Bullet reflecting wristbands AND a lasso of truth?  I’d have thought just the lasso would be enough, but I guess when you find out the truth you need to be able to reflect some bullets.
And, can you imagine the martini parties on Paradise Island?

Main Course
Tell about the funniest teacher you ever had.
Miss Horn.  She wasn’t joke-cracking funny, but she had a wonderful wit and sense of humor.  Every day in her class was a day I knew I’d leave happier than I got there.  RIP.

Dessert
Complete this sentence: I strongly believe that “You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once.”  Robert A. Heinlein

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how much do enjoy watching sports on television?

5.  I don’t do much actual “watching” of the whole event, but they’re on around here quite a bit.  I’m pretty neutral to them – they make other people here happy, which leaves me free to have the laptop between me and the TV.

Soup
If you could completely memorize any one work of fiction, which one would you pick?

Right now, Lord Demon’s Delight by Gia Dawn.  Its my first read by her – and it’s great!

Salad
What is your favorite breakfast food?

Coffee.  Anything else is a bonus.

Main Course
Name something fun you can do for less than $10.00.

Read a book.

Dessert
How long does it usually take you to fall asleep?

Three minutes.  Sometimes less!  This changed about the same time I became a “morning person” (not that that was willingly!)  It used to take me over an hour of laying there doing awake dreams.  But now I’m so tired by the time I get to bed, I’m out almost instantly.

How many pieces of jewelry do you wear most days?

Soup
What is your favorite instrumental song?

Ravel’s Bolero

Salad
Who has a last name that you like?

Me!  And Steve Case.

Main Course
Name a popular movie you’ve never seen.

All three of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: Nothing makes me ___wakeup_ like __coffee__.  And I need more of it now.

Name a funny habit you have.

Err. My habits aren’t funny. Who thinks they’re funny?

I organize my clothes by color, then fabric from lightweight to heavy. Are you laughing yet?

Soup
If you could instantly know how to play a musical instrument, which one would you pick?

Guitar! I tried very briefly when I was 11 or 12, and couldn’t stick with it long enough to get the callouses that make it not-painful.

Salad
How long is your hair?

Getting longer – it’s about three inches below my shoulders now.

Main Course
When was the last time you forgave someone, and who was it?

Probably the husband. I remember getting upset with him about two weeks ago, but he did finally apologize (a rarity!) That’s the last person I can think of that got me really upset; generally when people are being an ass I just mutter “what an ass” under my breath and let it go.

Dessert
What is your favorite kitchen appliance?

The dishwasher! I just got it a few weeks ago, and after several years of handwashing it is more than wonderful to be able to be able to stick them in the machine and walk away. Not having the ugly dish drainer sitting on my counter most of the day makes me very happy too.

Fill in the blank: The best thing about where I live is _________________…

This is supposed to be an easy one! But … I’m not thrilled with where we live. Too much traffic, too much urban sprawl, too much construction! Too many drivers on the road anytime I need to go anywhere. Too far from my family. And the talk of global warming and rising sea levels? We’re two miles from the ocean, in a very flat town. I don’t have a lot of secure feelings about living here long term.

We won’t be moving anytime soon – my son is on a great track in the public school system, so we can’t leave the county we live in without him loosing his seat. But I’ve already started talking with hubby about moving when the kids are out of school. Since Princess is just starting kindergarten this fall, that gives me 13 years to work on him.

Not to be 100% negative – hubby’s family is close to us (sometimes too close?) so we do have family here. We have very mild winters – some years I don’t break out anything heavier than a windbreaker. We can open the pool in March and keep it open until October. Outdoor hot tubbing in January is the norm. We’re close to a major airport and major interstates run through / end here, so getting out of town isn’t all that hard when the urge hits.

Soup
Create a new name for a deodorant (like “Flower Fresh” or “Shower Scent”).

Stink Stopper

Salad
What was the last piece of software you installed onto your computer?

Of the seventeen pieces of software I installed this week, FlashFXP was the latest. (I bought a backup hard drive for the laptop, with XP Pro, so my work software will run off it when I go on the road next week. Normal weeks only see me installing one or two pieces of software.)

Main Course
If you were to receive a superlative award today beginning with the words ”Most likely to…”, what would the rest of the phrase say?

“Most likely to beg her kids to stop talking for a few minutes so she can finish writing this down before she forgets what she was thinking.”

Dessert
What two colors do you like to wear together?

Black and red. Or black and white. Sometimes black and black.

To be matter-of-fact about the world is to blunder into fantasy - and dull fantasy at that, as the real world is strange and wonderful. ~ Robert A. Heinlein

Ember Case

Hi - I'm Ember Case. I'm an author of erotic romances. Paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, historical - I love them all.

I'm also a wife, a mom, a small business owner, and a passionate volunteer to various organizations, including several chapters of the Romance Writers of America.

I'm probably off somewhere tapping at the keyboard, and wishing I could convince the kids that "Just a sec hun" really means "Go ask your dad."
