Website Updated

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Life, Site News

I’ve wanted to put a fresh coat of wax on things here at the website since the holidays, but been putting it off (for a whole month, it turns out) while I played with code and tried to decide what I wanted. I think I’m there now.

So it’s Superbowl Sunday, and I have absolutely zilch interest in the game. Two teams I couldn’t care less about. Hubby leaves town tomorrow for a week, and he decided he wanted to skip the parties – the only thing worse than a 5 hour flight is making it when you’re hung over.

I’m probably headed to the store in a bit to pick up some munchy foods, and he’ll watch the game and I’ll sit with my laptop and look up anytime he curses or cheers.

* Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson, Dallas Cowboys linebacker (Super Bowl XIII):
o “Terry Bradshaw couldn’t spell ‘cat’ if you spotted him the ‘C’ and the ‘A.’”

WordPress Wednesday – no, not my idea but it’s pretty damn spiffy Skippy

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Random, Site News

Why does WordPress double space when you start a new line?
The explanation outgeeks the average WordPress user. Face it, we use WordPress because we want to manage our content without having to code a site by hand.

If you want to be able to single line return, and double line return, at will, go to Oh My Stinkin Heck and check out today’s WordPress Wednesday tutorial. It will be the best thirty second fix you can do for your WordPress site.

Google Reader becomes more user friendly

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Random, Site News

No, Google Reader hasn’t figured out how to update a feed as quickly as Bloglines does, but they added a bit of user friendliness today.   (Thanks for the headsup sis!)

Now gReader users can make any public folder sharable with a little snippet of code added to your sidebar.

I’ve got many, many links here (picture me, pointing to that “Links” tab above), and all of them that have an RSS feed are on my Google Reader (picture me, quite often hitting “Mark All Read”).  But I’ve also got a Daily Top 25 list – 25 websites that I read every day, and never just mark as read without seeing what’s there.

So what’s on your daily Must Read list?

I’ve got nothing

Nothing to say.  But I can say it in many colors now.

This temporary code playing distraction was brought to you by Lancelhoff.

Back to writing :)

Code Love

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Site News

I’m playing nursemaid this weekend (Princess still isn’t better), so it seemed a good time to do something fun that I just haven’t had time to do in a while – play with code.

If you see any problems with the new look, let me know. I’m still looking for the perfect header image (that cup of cappuccino looks yummy, but it’s not quite what I’m going for :) )but the code is up-to-date and the layout is mostly set.

Hope you had time today to spend time doing something you love!

More Code Play

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Site News

Playing with code, mostly to see if the Now Reading widget will do exactly what I want it to do.  So far, it won’t, without serious code play.  Much to serious for nearing midnight, when I already spent several hours on code play at the Ink site today :borg:

Someday I need to actually learn php and css, instead of just mucking around with it until I can make it do something close to what I want it to do.

Setting up Templates

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Site News

Still working on this… but it’s close to the final look. I’ve been trying to decide whether to stay with blogger or move to another blog platform – getting the template set up here makes me want to stay.

There’s another High Noon Challenge at Romance Divas this weekend. It’s a fun motivational type thing mostly, just see how much you can write from 6pm Friday til noon on Sunday. I got zero written last night. Dinner – ok, ok, not dinner itself but to much wine with dinner, had me sinking into my comfy chair with no motivation last night.

Today, we’re cleaning. Opps, you caught me! I’m putting off cleaning by playing with templates.

Well now that I’ve been caught goofing off and ‘fessed up, I guess I have to force myself to go clean. Pray for me.

Sidebar building

Posted by Ember C.  Published in Site News

Building the sidebar.
I’ve only got two rules for putting someone there – they’ve got to have a web site I enjoy visiting, and they’ve got to actually update the damn thing regularly.
“Regularly” varies, but once a month won’t get it.

It amazes me how many people I’ve met over the past 6 months. Quite a few of the people listed over to the right I’ve either met online in writers groups, or exchanged some great feedback with via emails and comments.

Anyway. There’s not a single link there that doesn’t entertain me. I can’t guarantee it will entertain you, but go ahead and pick one… you’ve got nothing but a few seconds of your time to loose.

To be matter-of-fact about the world is to blunder into fantasy - and dull fantasy at that, as the real world is strange and wonderful. ~ Robert A. Heinlein

Ember Case

Hi - I'm Ember Case. I'm an author of erotic romances. Paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, historical - I love them all.

I'm also a wife, a mom, a small business owner, and a passionate volunteer to various organizations, including several chapters of the Romance Writers of America.

I'm probably off somewhere tapping at the keyboard, and wishing I could convince the kids that "Just a sec hun" really means "Go ask your dad."
